The enhanced assisted living units at Service Home Palmu-Pori emphasise privacy and personalised care

Dyyni and Keidas, the enhanced assisted living units at Service Home Palmu-Pori, returned from the substitute premises to their original, renovated premises in spring 2017. Palmu-Pori has 64 apartments for enhanced assisted living as well as a few two-person apartments for couples. Palmu-Pori started investigating Vivago already while on their substitute premises, and when the organisation returned to the renovated premises, the administrators deployed Vivago in both units.

The refurbished Palmu-Pori is its residents’ home where the nurses support their everyday life. Along with the change of the service format, Palmu-Pori wishes to offer its residents a safe living environment that respects dignity. The units respect the privacy of the residents’ homes and give personalised care (such as night care) at the right time. Palmu-Pori has adopted

Vivago and uses it actively in the planning and development of care. The residents have also embraced the new technology, with nearly 100% of the residents using the Vivago CARE watch.

Quick actions taken as a result of a change in a resident’s condition have normalised the amount of sleep of many residents, while also improving their circadian rhythm and daytime activity

From the outset, the appointed Vivago administrators of the units were involved in the planning on how Vivago can support the everyday life of the residents, enhance their functional capacity and ease the staff’s workload. The unit directors have also participated in Vivago training sessions and have actively distributed information in the units. Palmu-Pori’s staff have found the training sessions useful, and have invented new ideas on how the Vivago solution can be used in nursing work. The training sessions started already on the substitute premises, and continued through the move. Training is also provided with refresher sessions and continuous training sessions for administrators.

The daytime operation of the units is divided into three teams. During the morning and evening shift, the nurses respond to the alarms belonging to their team. The night shift uses a mobile application. The nurses monitor changes in the residents’ condition and take quick actions, and that has normalised the amount of sleep of many residents, while also improving their circadian rhythm and daytime activity.

Some residents have a voice connection, which also eases the nurses’ workload. If necessary, the residents can be given instructions over the voice connection, which speeds up communication and saves time in nursing. Vivago also enables the monitoring of the time spent in care activities.

Vivago supports timely care and freer movement at the units

Vivago is seen as a very useful aid in night care and its development towards a more personalised direction. The night nurses of Palmu-Pori consider Vivago as a very useful aid in the real-time monitoring of the residents’ well-being, sleep and activity. The wondering detection of the Vivago CARE watches and door alarms offer additional protection at night. The residents can move freely throughout the units during the day, and at night the nurses get information about the resident’s movements. Thanks to personalised settings, Vivago enables monitoring that is tailored to the residents’ individual needs.

The progressive, high-quality operations of Palmu-Pori take the residents’ viewpoint into account and put safety first. The customer-centric approach produces a safe living environment that respects dignity.
