Fall detection

Falls reduce the wellbeing of the elderly and increase the need for acute care

Falls are the most common type of accident among the elderly. One in four people over 65, one in three over 70, and one in two over 80 fall every year in Finland*.

The number of hip fractures among the elderly as a result of falls is high – around 7,000 cases annually. The seriousness of hip fractures is highlighted by the fact that one in five hip patients dies within a year of the injury. The cost of treating a single hip fracture in Finland in the first year is approximately €30,000. Currently, Hip fractures cost Finnish society at least €150 million per year*.

Falls can be prevented through measures such as making environments safer, introducing various technologies and assistive devices, treating underlying health conditions that contribute to falls, and adjusting medications for the elderly**.

Vivago's smart technology and its real-time wellbeing data can help reduce falls among the elderly, while the Silver Shield solution enables quick detection of falls when they occur.

Currently, Silver Shield fall detection is only available in the Finnish market.
